Fall is here- but that doesn’t mean you need to change your entire skincare routine.
Sun Protection
The beach trips and pool parties may be over, but that’s not a free pass to go bare in the sun. While it’s true that UVB rays (those responsible for burning) are weaker during autumn and winter, UVA rays which accelerate aging, are the same strength year round, regardless of how hot or sunny it is, (Dermatologist, Annie Chiu, M.D.). These rays also penetrate glass, so you can be exposed to their damaging effects even if you spend all day indoors or in your car.
The best defense, no matter the season, is wearing a broad spectrum sunscreen daily. My pick: a physical screen with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. These mineral shields sit on top of skin to help block out rays and are less likely to cause irritation than chemical versions. TRY Jurlique Sun Lotion SPF 30 orRadical Skincare Skin Perfecting Screen SPF 30.
Regardless of what kind of sunscreen you prefer, you need a nickel-sized dollop to adequately cover your whole face. If exposed to the sun, reapply every 2 hours.
Exfoliation
if the hot, muggy days of summer inspired you to be more diligent about exfoliating your face, keep at it! “Regular removal of surface cells prevents them from building up as the weather turns cooler and drier,” (Annie Chiu). TRY d’vine Zinfandel Scrub Mask. Apply the scrub onto an electric cleansing brush rather than your fingers. “The uniform pressure prevents irritation,” (Annie Chiu).
